Smartphones

As smartphones are growing more and more popular among geocachers, we have tested the event GPX file with a bunch of common applications to get an idea on what problems we may encounter. We have so far found some apps that seem to work quite well and will present those here. As we cannot guarantee Internet access on site we kindly ask you to prepare and download one of these apps before the event. This will also give you the chance to get used to the app.

iOS
Geo Bucket
Geosphere
iPlunder

Android
Neongeo
c:geo
Cachemaid

Any other app than the ones listed above will likely not work. Once on site, you will be able to download the GPX file via WiFi.

We would also like to remind everybody that it is mandatory to register for the event, besides posting a ‘Will attend’ log. You register at fad.geocaching.se where you are also able to pay the small fee (60 SEK per person) for attending. We encourage everybody to register and pay via PayPal no later than 12.00 on 2012-11-02 (at which time the registration will close). If you are unable to pay via PayPal (they do accept all major credit cards), or if you are still unsure if you will attend or not, it will be possible to register and pay at the event, but to a slightly higher cost (100 SEK per person).

If you have any questions regarding registration or anything else, don’t hesitate to contact us. We do our best to respond to all emails within 12 hours.

Also, don’t miss your change to get some of the awesome memorabilia that we have available here.

See you all on Saturday! Welcome to Fumble After Dark 2012!

News

Barely three weeks left now, and we are really working hard to make this the best Fumble After Dark ever. We are sorry for the lack of updates recently, but with limited time and resources, we are forced to prioritize.

On the Practical page we have published some practical information about transportation, lodging and much more. If you are still hesitant about where to stay and how to get to the event, make sure to have a look on the webpage.

As usual we have some nice memorabilia that you can buy to support Fumble After Dark as well as have something nice to remember the event by. For this year’s event, we have a stunningly beautiful Geocoin to offer, which you can buy here. We also have a nice t-shirt for sale here.

All income from the sale of Geocoins and t-shirts will be used to fund the event.

We would also like to remind you that registration and payment is mandatory for this year’s event. The cost for participation is 60 SEK per person, and you register on the official Fumble After Dark webpage. Even though it is possible to register and pay at the event, we encourage everybody to pre-register to ease the administration (and because it is cheaper).

That’s it for now. See you soon!

The hunt is on!

The hunt is on!

In true FAD fashion, the event coordinates will be revealed in a somewhat unconventional manor. The observant has already seen the cryptic image on the cache page showing what eventually will be coordinates.

This year, the coordinate release is not bound to a specific time and place, but rather to a number of specific places. In several caches with some form of FAD connection, a small note has been placed. The note contains a code that shall be submitted to a web page. For each code that is submitted, more and more of the coordinates will be revealed. When enough codes has been submitted, the coordinates are revealed in full. The specific caches containing codes are of course kept secret, but by remembering where FAD has been arranged in the past and who helps out, one can surely figure out which caches to visit. To add some extra difficulty, a number of codes has been placed in close proximity to FAD crew members, not in caches. One can also have some bad luck and happen to find a code that has already been registered, so be quick!

Naturally, there is also a contest part to it. The person who successfully registers the most amount of codes will win a nice price. The winner will be announced at Fumble After Dark 2012.

Good luck!
